Kashmiri Embroidery
The fancy artwork done on fabrics is known as embroidery. You can in simple words that embroidery is art of beautifying fabrics. In realistic terms, it is the art and handicraft of embellishing fabrics or other materials. Fabric is designed and stitched with fine quality of thread by using a needle.
Mostly good quality colorful threads are used in embroidery. Silk threads are used in magnificent types of embroidery, gold and silver fibers are used in very stylish embroideries. Sometimes, the costly materials, like expensive metal strips, quills, beads, pearls and sequins, are used in posh embroideries.
Usually, embroidery is made by hand, yet in modern times sewing machines have been quite frequently used. The embroidery done by machines is called machine embroidery. There are hells of varieties of embroidery used worldwide.
Kashmiri embroidery or kashida is popular in all over the world. They are colorful, beautiful as the Kashmir itself. . Kashmiri work has a rich color range and superb handicraft culture and they made skillfully attractive designs describing ordinary signs like the chinar leaf, plum, the grape, the cherry, lily, apple blossom, mixture of flowers of the area. Kashmiri famous embroideries are single stitch. Satin stitch, chain stitch, herringbone, the slanted darn stitch, stem. Dory or knot stitches are also used but only once or twice times.
